Week 9

This week I was responsible for the presentation. It came from Drew Hyland's book "The Stance of Sport". It was a great reading about things in sports such as value, fun, trust, risk taking, and paradoxes of sports. The reading really brought up some different questions for me in terms of my prospective on the value and fun in sports. I realized that football is always fun for me no matter what bad things come up. Football teaches me life lessons and will definitely help in the long run for me. The paradoxes were definitely correct on how basically if we get knocked down we will better ourselves for fighting back up and that makes achieving our goals that much greater.

Week 8

This week seemed to focus more on heroes. after watching the movie with muhammad ali i can clearly define a hero of mine. that hero is adam vinatieri. a farm boy from south dakota played for a small college but fought through adversity and is now one of the best kickiers, if not the best, in the nfl. people like that show me that the underdog can come out on top and since my 5 foot 8 inch body isnt typical for my position im hoping someday i can achieve all the things i have set out to accomplish.

Week 7

This week brought up a very interesting topic..the concept of metis. I really enjoyed learning some philosophical viewpoints on such a thing because that is something that inspires me as an athlete. Being able to come up big when your team needs it the most...thats why people play sports and thats why people watch.

Week 6

First, I would like to say that all the Chicago Bears fans got exactly what they deserved yesterday. The Bears were exposed for the average to slightly above average team that they truly are. They were not worthy of a super bowl championship. Congrats Coach Dungy, Peyton Manning, and the entire Colts organization.
Second, I am now looking ahead as we start working on our analysis papers on the sport of our choice. It will be a difficult task because of all of the information about each sport, but it will be hard to structure all that material into a 5-6 page paper. It should be difficult but I am looking forward to the task as always. Have a great week.

Week 5

This week was my least favorite week in terms of readings and discussions. The topic was art vs. sports and how they compare. I do not think they do at all and i will continue to refure to listen to anyone who truly thinks they are very similar. I think that art can not be conpared with sports because there is nearly zero physical activity it art. There is art in sports but there is no sport in art ad that is the most obvious thing to me.

Week 4

This week was the reading and discussion that I had been waiting for because I can most easily relate to what was being said. The topic was is winning everything... of course i think it is because of all of the things that come with striving for excellence. When winning is a necessity in someones life they will be forced to push themselves to the limit every single day to become the athlete they want to be.

Week 3

I had been waitig for a reading like this to come along. I was glad to start reading about the Olympic games and what it meant to compete in those games. I liked how money and social status affected who got to compete because back the that is all they had to comppare people. They had no real organized pro teams that everyoe knew about. If you wanted to prove you were good then give us money basically. I like the fans prospective on the Olypmic games. They didnt mind throwing a few pennies to watch the games because they admired the athletes so much and appreciated their talents. Most importantly, although a war would havbe been going on, it was nice to see that the olympics made every forget about the war.

Week 2

I found this weeks reading to be good and bad. The first reading by Glenn A. Olds was very entertaining and enlighting. It really talked about how physical education is really not done right by some physical educators. It says that since physical education is such an important part of growing, it is a necessity that all physical educators get on the same page and do their jobs to have the kids benefit from the class. The second reading was too boring for me. It talked about art in comparison to sports, which I find few similarities and tons of differences. Overall, I like the readings so far but would like for some more interesting stuff to come along.

Philosophy of Sport

I think there is a lot of philosophy in the world of sports. I am sure every player and coach for every sport views things differently but all share a common love for their particular sport or sports. My philosophy for sports is just to continue to get better to become the best I can possibly be so that I can compete with anyone. The competetion is really what motivates me to get better and when it comes time for a game or cometition I will be confident that I am ready to compete at the maximum level.
